This is the image for the news article titled ISD 181 Viewpoint: Adult Basic Education: It’s never too late to learnIs one of your New Year’s resolutions to get back to school? Maybe you want to earn your GED or go to college? Great news - it is never too late and no one is ever too old to go back to school. Even better news - the Community Ed departments of Brainerd, Pequot Lakes, Crosby-Ironton and Pine River-Backus school district work together to offer Adult Basic Education (ABE) classes to adults across the region at no cost.

ABE helps adult learners prepare to take the GED Test and the Accuplacer assessment for college entrance. The knowledgeable, understanding, and helpful teachers can support those wanting to boost their employability through stronger reading, writing, math and basic computer skills. You can even work towards earning a National Career Readiness Certificate. English as a Second Language classes are also offered.

Classes are free to students. The class schedule is flexible; you come in when you can and leave when you must. Each student works at his/her own pace with guidance from teachers who specialize in giving individual attention to each student. Classes are offered at the Brainerd campus of Central Lakes College during the day and some evenings, and at the Pine River Public Library one evening per week. There is also an online curriculum for those wishing to work from home.

To get enrolled, call us at 218-855-8166 or visit us in room C104 at Central Lakes College. Enrollment is Monday - Thursday, 8:30am - 3:00pm. We work with each student individually to determine skill levels, set goals and make a plan for achieving those goals. Get enrolled today and you can be well on your way to fulfilling that New Year’s resolution!
