This is the image for the news article titled COVID 19 Update and Request Dear Warrior Staff and Families,

The snow is gone and the April showers that will soon bring May flowers are upon us. Before we know it, summer will soon be here. The excitement of spring’s activities and summer’s approach is especially sweet this year when we have all endured so much. As we enter the homestretch of the 2020-21 school year, we are unfortunately experiencing another surge in COVID-19 cases. I want to share some reminders with you and encourage you to remain vigilant for the last six weeks so that we may finish this year strong and in person.

The number of Brainerd Public Schools students and staff who are in quarantine due to symptoms, testing positive, or being a close contact of a positive case are again on the rise. One of our deepest desires for this school year is to be able to remain in our current modified in-person learning model. I do not want our students to have to change learning models again this school year. In order to make this a reality, I need your help to contain the spread of the virus. I am asking you today to recommit yourself to the following mitigation measures:

Keep students and staff home from school, athletics, and all activities when:
they are sick with symptoms related to COVID-19 and any other contagious illness. In addition to COVID19, we are seeing a lot of strep throat and stomach flu in our schools; and
when someone in the household is showing symptoms of COVID-19, testing for COVID-19, or has received a positive coronavirus diagnosis. Please report absences like this to the student’s school office and we will follow up with the dates the students can safely return to school.
Continue with good hand hygiene, social distancing, avoiding large gatherings, and wearing face coverings.
Please also note that the COVID-19 vaccination is now available for everyone age 16 and older in Minnesota. If interested in learning more, you can find vaccine distribution sites HERE. Providing proof of vaccination can mean students and staff can return to school more quickly following exposure. Thank you for your partnership to date!! The more we work together to do our part to contain this virus, the sooner we can put all these pandemic precautions behind us. Your diligence for these last six weeks of our school year will be greatly appreciated and will help us finish Warrior strong! Thank you.

Respectfully,

Laine D. Larson
Superintendent of Schools
Brainerd Public Schools - ISD 181
