Brainerd Students Selected for Special Olympics Minnesota Student Board

The Special Olympics Minnesota Student Board of Directors includes 40 students from across Minnesota — 20 general education students and 20 students receiving special education services.
Bjerkness and Jendro have both been involved with Special Olympics since seventh grade, and later joined Unified Warriors, where they developed a strong passion for Special Olympics and its mission of inclusion.
Bjerkness said her experiences working with students in special education have taught her the importance of celebrating every accomplishment, regardless of how big or small it may seem.
“To me, Special Olympics means being inclusive and welcoming toward everyone,” Jendro said. “It’s about making sure everyone feels like they belong and has the opportunity to be involved.”
As members of the Student Board of Directors, Bjerkness and Jendro will represent student perspectives and contribute to the work of Special Olympics Minnesota.
Their selection provides both students with an opportunity to help promote inclusion and acceptance among students across Minnesota.
