OCTOBER ~ 2025
Dear Nisswa Warriors,
October is one of the most exciting months at Nisswa Elementary, and we are ready to celebrate it together with a full lineup of learning, tradition, and community fun! šš
OurĀ fourth gradersĀ will once again visit the Nisswa Legion to learn the traditions of our nationās flagāhow to fold it, honor it, and even respectfully retire it in a special ceremony. Our schoolwide trip toĀ Copper CreekĀ is right around the corner, and weāll join schools across the state forĀ Kindness in Chalk, spreading messages of encouragement across our sidewalks.Ā
This month also bringsĀ SocktoberĀ and ourĀ Diaper Drive, along withĀ Fire Prevention Weekāwhere our kindergartners will have the unforgettable chance toĀ ride a firetruck, thanks to the Nisswa Fire Department! š
Of course, October is not complete without theĀ Scholastic Book FairĀ and a revampedĀ PTO Spooktacular Family Nightācomplete with dinner, photos, costumes, games, and ānot-so-spookyā fun. š Weāll finish the month in true Warrior style with aĀ schoolwide lunch donated by Nisswa A&WĀ and our annualĀ Halloween Parade down Main Street, thanks to the Nisswa Chamber. š§”š¤
⨠A hugeĀ thank youĀ toĀ Nisswa A&WĀ for their generous donation, to ourĀ PTO & Nisswa PTO Pride LionsĀ for their constant creativity and energy, and to theĀ Nisswa ChamberĀ for partnering with us to make this month truly magical. āØ
As always, we encourage you to ask your student about theĀ best part of their dayĀ and carve out time each evening to enjoy a good book together. Small, daily moments of connection make the biggest difference.
Thank you for being such an important part of our school communi ty. We are grateful for your partnership and proud of the Warrior spirit that makes Nisswa Elementary such a special place to learn and grow.

𧦠#Socktober at Nisswa Elementary š§¦
Did you know that one of the most needed items at local shelters and support closets is a new pair of socks? This October, Nisswa Elementary is joining the national #Socktober campaign while also supporting our own community.
Weāre inviting every student to bring in one (more if you are able) brand-new pair of socks in their own size (any kind will do!). Donations will be shared with:
- Our Nisswa Elementary support closet
- The district family liaison support stock
- The Lakes Area Womenās Shelter
Socks will be collected in each grade-level area, and the class with the most donations will earn a special award! š
Together, we can show our Warriors that small acts of kindnessālike a fresh pair of socksāmake a big difference. š

š£ Nisswa Elementary Chamber Halloween Parade š Friday, October 31st | š 1:15 p.m. |
|
On Friday, October 31st at 1:15 p.m., Nisswa Elementary students and staff will once again take part in the Nisswa Chamberās Halloween Parade! šš»
Students will parade out the main Nisswa doors, go through the bankās fun (and not-too-scary) āspooky house,ā and then head down Main Streetāan Only-in-Nisswa experience for our kids!
⨠What Families Need to Know:
-
Volunteers ā If your studentās teacher is in need of parade volunteers, please connect directly with them. Be sure youāve completed the volunteer form found on the Brainerd Schools website under Community Education
-
Watching the Paradeā Families may:
- Wait outside the main Nisswa entrance to cheer on our students as they begin, and/or
- Walk along with classes (if not volunteering), OR
- Wait downtown along Main Street to see the full parade route.
- Be sure to check out the attached parade route so you can plan the best spot to catch a glimpse of your Warrior! šāļø
-
Costumes ā Please send costumes in a labeled bag(students will change before the parade so they donāt wear them all day).
- ā No masks, weapons, clown costumes, or violent/inappropriate themes.
- ā No aerosol sprays (e.g., hair paint, glitter) in schoolāthese can trigger asthma. If families choose, students may apply these before coming to school.
- ā All make-up, face paint, or hair styling should be done at home to save time at school.
- ā
Costume guidelines apply to both students and spectators to ensure this remains a safe, positive, and family-friendly event.
We are so excited for this community tradition thanks to our AMAZING Chamber! š§” Thank you for supporting our school and helping us make this parade fun and safe for all.
šVisitors & Volunteeringš |
|
All visitors to Nisswa Elementary will be asked to present a government-issued ID (driverās license, state ID, or passport card) upon entering the building. This is part of our new Raptor security system, which quickly scans IDs and checks them against a national database to ensure the safety of our students and staff.
The term āvisitorā includes parents/guardians and community members who come for school events, classroom parties, dropping off materials, or other large-group activities. Classroom visits and field trip support will always be coordinated directly through your studentās classroom teacher.
Volunteers
We love our volunteers! To participate as a classroom volunteer, working in the classroom, field trip chaperone, book fair helper, or in any other volunteer role, the district requires two important steps each year: Ā
š Please note: Applications take 5ā7 business days to process. Be sure to plan ahead if youād like to help with an upcoming event or field trip.Ā
Thank you for supporting our schoolāwe couldnāt do it withoutĀ you! š
š¤šĀ Conference Connections: Guardians & Teachers š Updated Fall Schedule |
| At Nisswa Elementary, we believe that the partnership between home and schoolis one of the most important parts of a studentās success. šš
This year, GuardianāTeacher Conferences will take place on November 25th & 26th. By holding conferences later, teachers will have completed all fall assessments (including formative assessments š), built strong relationships with students, and will be able to share specific examples of growth and learning. This timing also aligns with all elementary schools across Brainerd Public Schools to keep us consistent and connected.
š©āš« Teachers will reach out with your scheduled date and time.
š¤ And rememberāour doors are always open! If you ever need to connect earlier to talk about concerns or celebrate successes, please reach out to your childās classroom teacher or the specialist who works with them. Together, we are building a strong Warrior community for every student! š

HOMEWORK & HOME CONNECTION |
|
Building GRITāTogether! š At Nisswa Elementary, our theme this year isĀ GRIT = Growth. One of the best ways to help your student grow is by making sure they come to school prepared each day. Your support at home builds strong work habits, fosters resilience, and sets them up for success. Take a few minutes each day to ask your student about what theyāre learning and celebrate their progress. These conversations strengthen connections and encourage a positive mindsetāhelping them tackle challenges with confidence. Together, guardians and staff can make this a year of growth, perseverance, and success! šš |
